Is it safe for me to have chiropractic treatment while I'm pregnant?
Chiropractic and Pregnancy
Pregnancy can be a time of joy and excitement but for some the experience is tainted by pain and discomfort and in some cases illness. This is often as a result of the many structural and hormonal changes pregnant women experience that affect the spine, nerves, joints, ligaments and stability.
Many of the aches and pains associated with the changes the body undergoes during pregnancy can be helped by chiropractic treatment. One of the most noticeable aspects which often cause back pain is the change in your posture as the body adapts its stance to accommodate the growing baby.
Realigning the spine and pelvis (the areas most notably affected by this changing posture) can help to reduce the strain on the joints, shoulders, lower back and legs. Another change that occurs naturally in pregnancy is the softening of the ligaments which means that the joints can undergo additional stress. Regular chiropractic treatment can keep these symptoms to a minimum and the pelvic girdle can be maintained in the optimum position for birth.
